During the heating season, a geothermal heat pump (also known as a ground source heat pump) takes heat energy out of the earth, and uses it to heat your home. During the air conditioning season this process is reversed; the geothermal heat pump takes heat energy out of your home, and puts it into the ground. An investment in geothermal technology conserves non-renewable fossil fuels, lowers fuel and maintenance costs, and increases the value of your property.
Geothermal heat pumps have been in use for many years, and they are proven reliable. They function based on the same refrigeration cycle technology found in other types of heat pumps, air conditioners, and refrigeration equipment. However, because they transfer heat between your home and the earth, when installed properly, they are much more efficient than functionally similar air source equipment.
